“Vertical Limit”

“What if you had to climb a mountain in order to save your sister from the weather?

Would you bring a bunch of bombs?

If you were making a movie in 2000 about mountain climbing, YES!

This movie has a plot that’s seemingly mapped out by someone who is very dedicated to setup and payoff…but maybe a little TOO dedicated to it because two very unlikely things happen to the same people TWICE!

In the opening, Chris O’Donnell is put in a situation where he has to cut a rope and kill his father, and this happens AGAIN. SORT OF!

And as unlikely as THAT sounds, Bill Paxton made an attempt at climbing K2 in the past, and he was somehow trapped by the weather and turned into a jerk who used their whole supply of dexamethasone to prolong his life until he could be rescued. AND HE ENDS UP IN THE SAME SITUATION! SORT OF!

Oh, Bill Paxton. Will you never learn?

This movie is PACKED with people who I felt like should’ve been HUGE, but were, well, pretty big.

Chris O’Donnell, I wondered what he’s been up to, and it turns out he’s been on an NCIS for 297 episodes. Good for him. I would not mind seeing him come back as Robin, Spiderverse style.

Robert Taylor, probably best known as the titular Longmire, or maybe Agent-Not-Smith in The Matrix, is so great and SO wasted in this movie! They banish him back to base camp. Blowing up a mountain to save someone is kind of a sin, but this movie’s unforgivable sin is definitely benching Robert Taylor.

Robin Tunney starred in The Mentalist for like 7 years and got a colonoscopy 3 weeks ago. I know this because she put it on her instagram.

So maybe the stars in this movie HAVE been in stuff, just not stuff I’ve spent a lot of time with. And there’s no such thing as too much Robert Taylor.”
