“The Liminal Zone (Junji Ito)”

“The Catholic (Christian? Protestant? Whatever) story didn’t do it for me, but this all still has that Junji Ito flare.

The one about the lifeforce or whatever was super weird and a little unresolved, and that one slaps.

That’s what the kids say, It Slaps.

I’m hoping Will Smith releases a good new album so that we can make jokes about how it slaps, but he’d have to do it pretty soon, we’re running past the time when people are talking about Fresh Prince slapping Detective Zeke Banks (that’s what Chris Rock is best known for, right? His detective character in Spiral?).

Can we talk about Spiral? I mean, it’s got sort of the same name as a Junji Ito book.

The weirdest thing about Spiral was Chris Rock as a detective, because it seemed 100% like I was watching a movie where Chris Rock left comedy and became a detective. Although Samuel Jackson being his dad was a surprise, especially because I thought he’d be in like one scene, maybe one flashback, but he was significantly more present in the movie than I’d have expected.

Other than that: snoozefest.

If it wasn’t attached to the Saw franchise, I don’t think anyone would have noticed that movie at all. And when you’re relying on being a part of the Saw franchise as the backbone of your movie’s fame, yikes.”
