“I read five of these volumes, so I’m going to do a 5-part My Current Goodreads Complaints series.
Part 2: PopDown Ads
EVERY time I’ve clicked a banner ad at the top of Goodreads, which usually zooms you right over to Amazon, it’s because that image is the last thing to load, it pushes the screen down, and I click where, seconds ago, there was a “Read” button, and now there’s an ad.
This one makes sense, if I can be conspiratorial for a moment. Will I be de-monetized for spreading this conspiracy? Am I monetized now? What’s monetized even mean?
A lot of times, you pay for these ads based on click.s “X dollars for Y clicks.” This way, with them basically faking you out, you click on the ads. So if you had a real crap ad, it’ll still run through its clicks eventually.
As an occasional advertiser of crappy books, I know from which I speak.”
