“Here’s the thing with this:
It’s a remake of a thing that’s already great. I think it’s a remake of thing that doesn’t really benefit from updating or remodeling.
I mean, this is based on my thinking that Slaughterhouse-Five is one of the more perfect books ever written. It’s Vonnegut at his best.
Which isn’t to say I think it’s unfuckwithable and this is an atrocity, just that it’s a derivative (intentionally) version, and it just made me want to read the book again.
Also, something weird about it, I have a hard time imagining someone reading this without having read the novel. I would be very curious to see what that experience is like for someone.
It’s a good book, a good adaptation, I think it’s well done and made with care and a deep love of the original source material. Its only sin is that it’s not the original Slaughterhouse-Five, which is a sin committed by all books that aren’t Slaughterhouse-Five.”
