“Saw 3 kind of pulled off its retcon of Saw history in a pretty unexpected way that kind of makes sense, and then Saw 4 tried to do something similar, and that lightning did not strike twice.
Saw 4 is such a weird thing, timeline-wise. It picks up almost exactly where 3 left off, and it kind of forces you to remember 3’s end, but not until the end of 4!
That said, watching Tobin Bell do a Jigsaw Begins where he’s saying things like, “What a lovely day in the park,” while still being thoroughly frightening is just amazing. And where we’re asked to think Billy the Puppet was intended to be an actual child’s toy is just incredible.
