Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Vol.2 by Brian Michael Bendis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Good, fine. Will keep reading, but just looking for a little more character here. Also, I don’t like this storyline where Miles’ uncle will reveal he’s Spider-Man unless Miles does some bad shit. It’s one of those stories where a kid is like, “If my dad finds out, he’ll hate me forever because he hates Spider-Man!”
One, since when do teens fret over the preferences of their fathers? Fuck your father. I don’t think smoking, leather jackets, and terrible music played by people who didn’t know how to use instruments would have ever existed if not for people who kind of wanted to piss off their fathers.
Two, there’s no end game here. Do you really think your asshole uncle will be like, “Okay, I’m a man of my word. Take care, young Miles!” C’mon.
I know there are justifications for why everyone would do what they’re doing in their positions, but it’s the kind of story that feels a little overdone to me. I JUST read a Superman story where the same thing was happening, someone was blackmailing Superman with his secret identity.
I DO give this points for the chain hook weapon not seen since Lobo comics. Where is my goddamn Lobo Omnibus already?
