The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol. 1: Squirrel Power by Ryan North
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Hilarious. It’s goofy as all hell, but I dig it. I like this superhero who is horrible at keeping a secret identity. And I like a squirrel making its own spacesuit out of an Iron Man glove. And I think I’m a sucker for any book in which someone goes up against Galactus, who has tried to eat the Earth about 50 times by now and hasn’t ever succeeded. Seriously, what is it about Earth that keeps him coming back? He’s like a lactose intolerant who can’t help himself and orders an extra cheese pizza every time. Except he’s never even tasted pizza and ends up just throwing it in the garbage every time. He needs a Yes/No checklist before he goes to eat a planet. Is It Earth? Is a Reed Richards there? How about a dude who it’s not really clear if he’s a super guy or a god? Do they have an ultimate nullifier? Is it paleo? Did I ever check out that library book and figure out what paleo is? Because that seems crazy.
