“Paper Girls, Book One”

“The stupidest part of me didn’t realize this was “paper girls” like “paperboys,” as in people who deliver newspapers. I kept saying it in my head as paper GIRLS, not PAPER girls. I don’t know what I thought it meant. Something super clever about the situations and lives of girls? I guess “Newsies” was taken.

10 issues deep and it’s still pretty unclear what the fuck is going on. There’s time travel, maybe, and some sort of plan to capture teen girls or something? Kind of an Akira, “Their youth is their greatest weapon” thing going on?

I’ll keep reading. It’s fast-moving enough to keep me going, but I’d like to get into the story pretty soon. It’s hard to describe…things are happening, but the pieces don’t fit together yet, and I’m banking that they will. And they’d better. Oh, they’d better, Brian K. Vaughan. Otherwise…otherwise I’ll be pretty pissed and complain to my girlfriend about it. Can you live with that guilt, Vaughan? CAN YOU!?”
