“My Dirty Dumb Eyes”

“Okay, wait. I just saw a review for this that was hidden because it contains spoilers. Having read the book, I don’t know how you could possibly spoil it, so I clicked. The review was one sentence: Beautifully drawn and hilarious.

What?

Lady, do you know what a spoiler is? A spoiler isn’t telling me that something is, in your opinion, beautifully drawn. “Did you see the Mona Lisa? Spoiler alert: it’s well-painted.” What? WHAT!?

That’s like saying it’s a spoiler to say something was good.

Did you see Avengers?
Yeah, it was great!
Uh, dude, SPOILERS much?

What the hell, goodreads. When did you start letting all this riff raff in?

I’ve read some weird shit, and this is some weird shit.

There’s a story in the book that sums up exactly how I feel the book came about. A character is making these little clay fingers, and the fingers are different finger puns. Just read the damn book if that doesn’t make sense. I didn’t write My Dirty Dumb Eyes, and I’m sure as hell not about to REwrite it for YOUR benefit.

Anyway, the character making the fingers is like, “This is stupid and pointless. I’m enjoying it right now, bet I won’t in a month, and I don’t know what to do with it.” The supportive boyfriend gives some good advice, which is, “Just keep making them until you don’t want to anymore. Worry about what to do next when you get there.”

Some of the stuff in the book felt like maybe it was stuff created with that ethos, I don’t know if this has much of a point other than the creation of things. Which I’m a huge fan of, though I feel like maybe it’d be good for someone else to take a look and say, “Okay, maybe this bit about the animals in hats is sort of fun and weird, but…maybe it’s mostly nonsensical.”

Fun movie reviews, great little bits about attending a toyfare. Good if a little uneven.”
