“The kills of horror, the thrills of…well, nothing super thrilling.
This one was kind of tough to read because you’ve got a guy with multiple personalities, but it was hard to figure out which personality was which. This is almost certainly because I’m reading this as a westerner, so the Japanese names are harder for me to keep track of than it would be if I were reading this in English and one personality was called “Mad Dog” or some shit. So it’s not totally the writer’s fault, but maybe the translators could’ve gone a little further to distinguish the personalities.
I mean, it’s a hard thing because they won’t look different, physically, so they have to be distinct somehow…but when it’s just a name and nothing else, that doesn’t stick, you know? If I tell you a story about two guys, Steve and Dave, and they do different things, but there’s nothing else that distinguishes them, it’ll be hard to remember which was Steve and which was Dave because which one had which name isn’t really relevant.
I just also had kind of a hard time following this one in spots. I don’t know if it jumps around differently than I’m used to or what, it just didn’t track for me, somehow.
But there were some awesomely gross visuals, and that’s always worth the price of a library checkout.”
