I think that part is okay, but what people probably hated more than anything was the retcon:
So in this version of the world, Frank Castle’s family was killed, as per usual. The twist is that the murder of his family was engineered by a demon, who also made sure Frank’s guardian angel was screwing around that day and would be of no help.
THEN, everyone Punisher killed became a demon in the first demon’s army. Or something. Something like that.
I think the whole “Punisher resurrected to try and work his way to heaven” thing is…not terrible. It does have that problem when they bring Christianity into the Marvel Universe, and Punisher is telling Wolverine he was ACTUALLY dead and brought back to life by ACTUAL angels, and Wolverine is just kind of like, “Whatever, bub.”
I guess maybe if there are Spider Men and Fantastic Men and so on, you might not be all that shocked, but still, NO surprise, NOBODY is like, “Wait, you’ve seen the afterlife? There is a definitive afterlife? Wha?””
