“Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles”

“Another Hanna-Barbera remake thingie that’s a lot better than it has any business being.

Snagglepuss is a 1950’s playwright. Who is gay and also being accused of being a commie. They don’t make any sort of deal about people and animals interacting (it’s a lot like Bojack Horseman that way), so you’ve just got animal people and people people doing the same sorts of things and living the same sorts of lives. So, for the most part, Snagglepuss being a giant pink cat man really has nothing to do with the story.

There were times that it was all a little much. The combo of being a closeted gay (cat)man, probably a necessity in the ’50’s, and being accused of being a communist for creating subversive art, perhaps things were a bit diluted. Either one of these storylines would probably serve without the other. But it’s enjoyable, the art is really good, and like I said, WAY better than it has any business being.

There’s more to enjoy in the form of little easter eggs if you’re a huge fan of Hanna-Barbera stuff and/or 1950’s Hollywood, both of which I can say I’m not all that interested in. “
