A while back I was hoping to find more spots for donations. That’s been pretty inconsistent, which tells me it’s a total Helpful Snowman project.
Today I wanted to point everyone towards The Empowerment Plan.
The Empowerment Plan is about real people making handmade coats that convert into sleeping bags if need be, and they also convert into shoulder bags for easy carrying.
This project appealed to me for a few reasons. But mostly there was a selfish motive here. Homeless is really more a kind of person, to most of us, than it is a situation that people find themselves in. I don’t mind telling you that my father was homeless for a time (and may be so now, I don’t actually know). The dude was a doctor. Then he wasn’t. The dude was my dad. Then he wasn’t.
I’m certain that somewhere, someone saw my dad on the street, and they saw a bum. And to be honest, he was a bum in some ways. But he was also a human being who didn’t get the kind of care he needed. I’m not coming down on anyone who saw my dad and saw a bum. I’ve done the same thing. I’ve seen many a bum who is probably, to someone else, a father or a son or a brother.
If you can, donate a few bucks to this one. It seems like a really good idea, and it seems like a donation here has a good chance of benefitting a population that can be difficult to reach directly with your money.
