“I maintain that the only Deadpool product that works is the movie. The comics just never seem to hit the right notes.
I have to believe it’s due to the charisma of Ryan Reynolds, who is undeniably charismatic. I mean, the guy was in THREE superhero movies before he hit with Deadpool (Blade Trinity, Wolverine Origins, Green Lantern), and they just kept putting him in stuff because someone out there was like, “I KNOW this can work. I can feel it.”
And that person was right!
Ryan Reynolds is watchable in fucking Mint Mobile commercials. Commercials for a wireless carrier, the most boring thing ever. It’s like watching a commercial for Xerox or something, you’re just like, “Bro, nobody at work asks me about printer brands, they just buy the shit, and sometimes it works, and that’s life.” And yet, Reynolds manages it just fine. He puts on his little glasses that send the message, “I’m being as sincere as I can, which isn’t terribly sincere, but here we are,” and he knocks that shit out of the park.
What I’m saying here is that if you ever see me considering a Deadpool comic, knock it out of my hands. Also, if I consider Mint Mobile. Because…that can’t possibly be any good, right? Like $15 bucks a month? No way.
