“Day of the Dead”

“It’s a goodie, not my favorite of the trilogy, let’s be honest, Dawn is the best, anyone who says otherwise is just trying to be different.

Some of the effects in this movie are downright amazing, though. That last 20 minutes or so, wow, they just REALLY went for it.

I’ve heard George Romero wanted to make this the “Gone with the Wind” of zombie movies, and originally it was WAY more expansive than it is here. I would love to be able to watch that movie. That could be what I end up doing if I ever get dimension-hopping capabilities: just see the Day of the Dead that never was, the Alien 3 that was exactly as David Fincher wanted it, you know, all that stuff that got destroyed by the moviemaking business and the grim realities of how difficult it is to make a movie.

It’s also a shame that this was the last movie until Land of the Dead in 2005, which wasn’t terrible…okay, it’s pretty terrible. It had a bit of a resurgence in the Trump era, I think, when everybody was busy scraping up all the pop culture that could reasonably or unreasonably be called a Trump parable. But Land suffers from the problems of Day without the enjoyment: The zombies are a bit smart for my liking.”
