Billy’s last concern was fighting monsters from the company Red Falcon(?) For right now, it was all Billy could do to get through high school.
“Alright, punk. Gimme your lunch money.”
That was the bully, Randy. Randy was a bully, and also clearly the coolest kid in the school. It was a confusing time, the mid-80’s. But you have to admit, bullies were bullies and nerds were nerds. It wasn’t perfect, but it was nice to have stuff be the stuff it was.
Billy was quaking in his boots. Which were really shoes. That’s just an expression in this case, the boots thing. If Billy wore cool boots, he’d probably be best friends with Randy instead of the victim of his beatings, which were pretty tame and mostly like the beatings a Slater from Saved By The Bell would give. Which means they were mostly empty threats that everyone was terrified of for no real reason.
“Uh, okay. I just need to get it out of my locker first.”
Randy let Billy walk away, but he said, “You’d better have that lunch money by lunch time or you’re dead meat.”
Billy loved correcting people. And when Randy said Dead Meat, Billy wanted to tell him that most meat was dead. That’s why it was meat instead of animals or something. But for once, Billy kept it to himself. Dead meat or alive meat, he was pretty sure that it was punches either way.
When he got to his locker, Billy sighed. He wished he was home playing Contra instead of giving money to the school bully. It seemed so much easier. You just move and shoot and move and shoot and eventually you save the day.
He wished he was brave like the way he was in Contra too. Like Bill and Lance.
Billy undid the code for his locker. He always remembered it because it was like some of his best top scores from Contra. In case you haven’t noticed, Billy was really interested in Contra to the point that you’re expected to believe that somehow his locker combo has a relation to his Contra score, which is not only unlikely in the extreme but also odd as scores aren’t really a thing in Contra.
But there’s no time to think about that. As soon as Billy popped the latch on his locker, he was sucked into a dimensional portal.
