“Clerks III”

“I’m a Kevin Smith Stan, so know that.

I’ll make a light critique first: The movie hits its emotional high late in the game. Dante’s line about his movie ending hits hard, it’s good stuff, it just comes so close to the movie’s back and that we don’t get much time to deal with that as Dante’s reality.

While there were things I didn’t love about the movie, it brought a tear to the eye before the end, and I like that Kevin Smith is still making movies, and seemingly making the kinds of movies he wants to make.

Also, if you’re not a Kevin Smith fan, I really recommend reading his book, Tough Shit. It’s pretty good, and I think it’d turn you around. Plus, the commentaries on his movies, a best of Smodcast…He’s an entertaining dude, and it’s really nice to see a genuinely entertaining dude make it without any real connection to Hollywood, rich parents, and all that stuff.

I think sometimes Kevin Smith doesn’t feel special, maybe even to himself, because there are a lot of Kevin Smiths out there: Funny, charismatic, regular sorts of guys who have a movie in them. But what separates Kevin Smith is he made the movie. “
