“Fun, beautifully drawn/painted noir.
Okay, the weird thing here, this is like a furry’s absolute dream. I assume. I guess I don’t know for sure, but that’s how it strikes me. So it’s a little weird. I read comics in bed while my partner snoozes on the weekends, and some I’m always worried she’ll roll over and see it and be like, “Who even are you?”
What I ALSO found weird was there’s a “White power” story in here, and it’s pretty literal: White animals, white power. You get the drift. But this really makes no fucking sense in the world of Blacksad because if there are different animal species walking around, wouldn’t it make a lot more sense for them to divide by species than by color? Why does a white tiger align himself with a polar bear? How does that work? Wouldn’t like, I don’t know, mammals unite or something? Birds?
Don’t get me wrong, aligning by race, as humans, doesn’t make sense either. I just got lost in the weeds thinking…well, a cat is banging a deer. How is that not something the people of this world find odder than the coloring of those two animal-people?
I guess you can’t do it that way because Maus did it, and it’s done. Just weird.
Anywho, I think the first story was great, the white power story was so-so, a little confusing, then the communism story left me a bit baffled, TBH. Maybe it’s noir shit that I just don’t understand. “
