“Batman: The Dark Knight – Master Race”

“It’s very strange to me that this one seems to be liked so much more than Dark Knight pt. 2.

I mean, I get why this is not the favorite of the trilogy, but in the battle over which one is Star Wars and which one is Return of the Jedi to Dark Knight I’s Empire Strikes Back, the selection most people have made it one I would not have expected.

I felt like, while imperfect, DK II is wilder. It’s weirder. It’s trying to say something, I’m not 100% sure what that something is, but I think there’s an ambitious attempt in DK II that’s missing a bit from DK III, which strives to tell a more conventional sort of story.

To be honest, the art in this one, while good, just makes me wish for more Frank Miller art. There’s SOME in here, small stories between the main issues, but what can I say, I like Frank Miller’s pencils.

I’m not going to say they’re an acquired taste, that’d make it seem like my taste was better than average or something, and I assure you, it’s not. I think I just enjoy Miller’s art because it doesn’t look like anyone else.

DK I is iconic. It might be my desert island comic book.

DK II is not beloved, but I had a good time with it.

DK III is liked more than DK II, but for me, it’s more forgettable. “
