“Miracleman, Book Three: Olympus”

“This book is like MAXIMUM ALAN MOORE for a hot minute there. There’s rape, then boys butt raping each other, then a bunch of prose that’s really poetic-sounding but also just sort of confusing and unpleasant to read.

It really gets somewhere by the end. I thought the ending was pretty good, and the storyline here is pretty appealing. It’s a fitting cap to the Miracleman line, and for something written so long ago, it GOES there. I mean, there is some seriously fucked up imagery in the last book, and the capper is a very human moment too. Overall, it’s pretty fascinating, but like parts of Swamp Thing, Moore gets a little bogged down in poetic language and metaphor, and all of that gets in the way of the story rather than enhancing it.

I think this is one of those books that I’ll probably enjoy talking about with other people who’ve read it as opposed to reading it. It leaves you in that space, which isn’t such a bad thing. “
