“Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife”

“Mary Roach is very funny, as usual, HOWEVER, where her other books are about showing us how weird and unexpected certain sectors of the world are, in this book, the world becomes less interesting.

I had a similar experience a couple years ago. I do this thing on my podcast called “Podoween” (I know, very creative) where I do a shorter episode each day in October. One year, I did a bunch of local legends, went to the places, tried to find the ghosts, and so on.

As you can guess, I did not see la Llorona, or The Corn Stalker, and the supposed ghosts in a historic house where some lady was killed failed to manifest as well.

By the end, I wasn’t super happy with the Podoween that year, and not just because of the name, like normal.

I felt like the fun of Podoween for me was making the world a little spookier, and what I did instead was make it more boring. Which IS what I do with my podcast most of the year, but in October, I try to do something a little different.

What I’m saying is that me and Mary Roach? We’re the same.”
