I think the manic pixie dream girl got a bad rap. Yes, I think this character is entirely fictional as Iâve never met someone I would describe this way in real life. However, MPDG seems like a harmless fantasy, and I read comics with Spider-Men, and I think a MPDG is closer to reality than a Spider-Man.
And itâs no more boring than the current trend: Empowered Dream Woman, which is a beautiful woman who expresses her agency by punching motherfuckers through a series of walls. Which, donât get me wrong, I enjoy, I just feel there are other ways to show empowerment outside of that pretty literal version.
Plus, it beats the current male figures, which Iâd mostly describe as Well-Meaning Dumbass. Where are all the cruel dumbasses, I ask you.”
