“I read this mostly because I’ve got an article cooking about Stephen King’s decision to pull ‘Rage’ from publication. I thought it’d be good to get his opinion on guns because, you know, there seems to perhaps be just the tiniest crossover there.
It’s a quick read, and a good one. King makes a really good point early on, which is that most people don’t exist in the political middle. He seems to. He’s a gun owner who thinks some small changes (getting rid of high-capacity options and assault rifles) would be really beneficial. He also indicates that we could learn a lot by listening to the way the news is presented to us and to our political opposites.
I wish there were more voices like this in political discussions. People who aren’t all one way or the other, or at least not presenting that way. I really believe a lot of people think this way, but most don’t say it, or don’t have the platform to take middle-of-the-road stances because, let’s face it, those are boring. Effective, plausible, reasonable, practical, but not exciting. “
