“Weird how this one works.
There’s a psychic who pops in to explain everything, but then she doesn’t really explain anything. There’s a monster reveal, but we definitely knew way beforehand that the Jeeper (Creeper?) was not just a dude.
I will give it this: the cops, townsfolk, and even the crazy cat lady are not incompetent hicks, which is a pivot for this kind of movie. Also, they don’t all talk with southern accents.
Hollywood, guys, that accent you do for poor, dumb, and white is a regional accent, not so much a socioeconomic indicator.
JC is totally fine, but it never comes together in terms of a plot. I think this movie really would’ve worked if it came out 15 years later. They’d have hidden the baddie until the jail scene and skipped the psychic because what we see is all we need to know. All it needed was a later debut and being in 2015 or so, a cover song by let’s say Volbeat.”
